referring families

“ Home-Start is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under five years of age.  Volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to young families under stress in their own homes, helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown”

Are you a social or health worker interested in referring a family  to Home-Start for support?  To refer a family in the Canterbury, Herne Bay, Whitstable or Faversham areas we suggest you:-

  1. Talk to the family about Home-Start and suggest how we might be able to help

  2. Ask the family’s permission to contact Home-Start

  3. Complete a referral form, giving outline details of the family's situation.  (Please contact us if you would like to have copies sent by post or email).

  4. Contact us at the Home-Start office in Canterbury

Additional Support

For some families a home-visiting volunteer may not be an appropriate means of support.  Home-Start Canterbury & Coastal facilitates a number of Family Groups across the area.  Existing groups include Faversham, Greenhill Herne Bay, St. Andrews Whitstable, Hersden Canterbury and Lucerne Seasalter.  New groups are currently being set up.  Please contact us for more information.

Details of other schemes across the UK are available from the Home-Start UK website.
